Information

The S.I. method:
Sensory Integration 2 – The clinical reasoning and appraisal in sensory integration.
“We know more than we can tell” (Polanyi, 1967).

So what is clinical reasoning?

It’s a cognitive sector of an increasing interest of researchers and therapists in the ergotherapy environment, as much as it is in physiotherapy and in other physical sciences’. Mattingly (1991) supports the idea saying that “clinical reasoning includes much more of the ability to give understandable interpretations in order to reason clinical decisions, exactly because it is based on a “silent” understanding that is gained through experience.

In addition, it includes much more of a plain theory-to-fact setting, mainly when theory is explained in science, and that’s because complex clinical decisions formerly demand the capture of a curative intervention which would confront the single meaning of disability, in any way this could be related to every patient.”(pg. 979)

Clinical reasoning in sensory integration.

This seminar fully regards clinical ergotherapists, physiotherapists, or even logotherapists that have completed a 5-day training in theory and therapies of sensory integration either in the Epimorfosis center, or in other educational centers. The target and philosophy of the seminar is to equip the therapists with the essential fundamental knowledge, in order to make clear clinical decisions, and in the planning of scientific based, therapy programs.
The way in whom clinical decisions are made is way too complex and demands knowing both theory and clinical appliance to act. In order to throw bridge across the hiatus, this seminar is build up on modern thinking models and cognitive theories.
The one main target is the extension of what was mentioned in sensory integration seminar 1 and the use both in evaluation and in treatment of sensory regulation dysfunctions.
Even the course is mainly pediatric, turned out useful in many other diagnostic groups.Educational videos, practitioners’ presentations, discussions and workshops, such as demonstration of patient-treatment session by the course leader are included, in order to gain an understanding of the seminar.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize clinical reasoning models and apply them in order to reach clinical decisions

  2. Understand clinical reasoning levels and relevant scientific fields of knowledge

  3. Use complex skills – sensory integration, neuroscience and clinical reasoning- during patients’ evaluation

  4. Make clinical observations based on Sensory Integration principles

  5. Explain, plan and evaluate treatments based on Sensory Integration theory.

This seminar is an extension of Sensory Integration 1 and constitutes a requirement for Sensory Integration Module 3: The Art and Science of Sensory Integration Treatment – A Practical Approach

Testimonials

EPIMORFOSIS organizes specialization seminars for rehabilitation professionals. I’ve watched a lot. I strongly recommend you trust EPIMORFOSIS for your specialization and lifelong information.

- Alexandros Karagiannidis -

Training, a steady value for more than twenty years now, leads physiotherapy and keeps it at a very high level, well done to George Karambalis and his associates, we owe a lot to all of you.

- Philip Tzimoulis -

The best physiotherapists training institution. It enables the development of the necessary knowledge for clinical reasoning. High-quality training without having to travel abroad.

- Tsoukalas Kotsiris Georgios -

My first steps in professional specialization started with EPIMORFOSIS and continue. It has been with us all these years, covering the need for modern and documented knowledge, in collaboration with internationally acclaimed educational institutions.

- Kostas Poulis -

I have known George Karampalis and EPIMORFOSIS for many years. I’ve had the opportunity to join several clinical courses and I can argue that, at the level of organisation and selection of trainers, they have a high level of recognised prestige.

- Georgia Petta -

EPIMORFOSIS justifies its name by providing high quality courses. George Karampalis operates more like a constant “trainee” and less like an entrepreneur, and this is an additional positive fact in the effort that is put by the workers and teachers of EPIMORFOSIS.

- Dimitris Stamoulis -
