Information

Globe-transp-1NDT Method

The Bobath concept is a problem-solving approach to the assessment and treatment of individuals with disturbances of function, movement and postural control due to a lesion of the central nervous system (IBITA 1996, Panturin 2001, Brock et al 2002, Raine 2006).

There are two levels provided for learning the method. The basic level carries out in two 5-days courses and the advanced level carries out in a 5-day course.

According to the IBITA’s course program, at the conclusion of the course the course member will be able to:

Untitled-1Understand the history and ongoing development of the Bobath concept.

Be able to integrate the principles of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) in their evaluation and treatment of adults with hemiplegia.

Analyse and facilitate efficient postural and movement control in preparation for and during functional activity.

Understand the functional consequences of lesions of the central nervous system

Observe and analyse disturbances of movement and function, and influence these through intervention.

Utilise the principles of motor control, motor learning, neural plasticity and muscle plasticity in their approach to treatment.

Understand the relationship between assessment and treatment, and implement the ongoing process of clinical reasoning.

Adapt and apply appropriate theoretical principles of treatment to the individual patient/client within his environment.

Develop effective handling skills and incorporate them with appropriate environmental and other influences in order to regain function.

Appreciate the importance of appropriate outcome measures to support evidence-based practice.

Continue learning through critical reading, self-evaluation and sharing with others.

Κυπριώτης ΚωνσταντίνοςKostas Kypriotis PT, MSc, Bobath (IBITA) Instructor

Kostas lives and works in Athens, Greece. He is mainly treating adults with movements impairments related to lesions of the central nervous system and especially stroke and multiple sclerosis. Moreover, he is dealing with myofascial dysfunction presented in a range of pathologies.

Education – Specialization

At 2003, he graduated from the Physiotherapy School of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens.

He has been awarded two Master of Sciences degrees; one from Brunel University of London (2005, MSc Neurorehabilitation) and one from the University of Athens (2011, MSc “Metabolic Bone Disorders”, Athens Medical School).

He has also attended clinical courses, such as:
• Maitland Concept (IMTA)
• PNF (IPNFA)
• Clinical Neurodynamics (NDS και NOI)
• Acupuncture (Norris Health)
• Kinematic Taping (IKTA)
• Fascial Manipulation (Stecco).
• Moreover, he has attended courses by Mark Jones, Paul Hodges, Lorimer Moseley and Angelo Maravita

Didactic Work

After finishing his postgraduate studies in Neurorehabilitation from Brunel University in London, Kostas attended at 2008 his first Bobath course for the treatment of adults with lesions of the central nervous system. Since then he took part in Bobath Courses in Greece, England, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Portugal, while he started to be trained as a Bobath Assistant Instructor by the International Bobath Instructors Teaching Association (IBITA). IBITA is an international teaching association which provides clinical education to Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists regarding the Bobath Concept. Since 2017 he is an IBITA Basic Course Instructor.

On the parallel, he developed a special interest for the role of myofascial dysfunction in terms of motor control and movement dysfunction. At 2009 he started attending courses for myofascial dysfunction by Interessengemeinschaft für myofasziale Triggerpunkt-Therapie – IMTT®. IMTT (imtt.ch) is a Swiss association which provides clinical education to Physiotherapists and Medical Doctors regarding the assessment and treatment of myofascial dysfunctions. In 2010 after attending clinical education in Switzerland he awarded the IMTT Trigger Point Therapist certification and continued his education as an IMTT assistant instructor. In 2014 he has been awarded as an Instructor for courses of the Interessengemeinschaft für myofasziale Triggerpunkt-Therapie – IMTT®.

At 2015 he became an educational member of the Foot Science International Interdisciplinary group (footscienceinternational.co.nz). Foot Science is a multidisciplinary team which focus on the study of foot problems, as well as the management of these problems by the use of orthotics.

eva new photoEvangelia Manta PT, MT, Bobath (IBITA) Instructor

She graduated from the Physical therapy department of Thessaloniki’s university and she works as a freelancer since 2005. Her clinical experience has started very early, since she worked in a private praxis. Her interest in neurological disorders, as well as ways of managing and treating such cases, was the starting point for her subsequent professional career.

In 2007 she completed the first basic course on the ΒΟΒΑΤΗ concept for adult neurological patients, and since then she completed a series of training courses in the field of neurology, manual therapy and therapeutic exercises.
